Cancellation & Refund Policy

Last updated: August 2026

We understand plans change. This page explains how cancellations and refunds are handled when you book a journey with AUNZ to Bhutan.

1Customer cancellation

If you need to cancel your journey, please notify us in writing as soon as possible. The date we receive your written notice is the cancellation date for the purpose of this policy.

2Cancellation more than 45 days before departure

If you cancel more than 45 days before your scheduled departure date, your 40% deposit remains non-refundable, subject to any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. If you have already paid the remaining balance, that balance is refundable, subject to applicable consumer rights and any legitimate supplier costs that we are unable to recover on your behalf.

3Cancellation 45 days or less before departure

If you cancel 45 days or less before your scheduled departure date, your 40% deposit remains non-refundable, subject to any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Any refund of the remaining balance will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account supplier cancellation costs, amounts we are able to recover from suppliers, and the circumstances of your cancellation. We are not able to guarantee a particular refund percentage in these circumstances.

4No-show

If you do not arrive for your booked journey and do not give us prior notice, you will not be entitled to a refund, subject to any rights that cannot legally be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable laws.

5Non-refundable supplier costs

Some costs are paid to our Bhutanese partner or third-party suppliers in advance and may not be recoverable if you cancel. Where genuine non-recoverable supplier costs apply, they will be identified and passed on at cost. We will provide as much detail as practicable about any such costs.

6Refund processing

Approved refunds are processed to your original payment method within 14 days. Any non-refundable supplier costs will be deducted from the refundable amount.

7Date changes

If you need to change your travel dates rather than cancel, please contact us. We will do our best to accommodate date changes subject to availability. Depending on timing, a date change may be treated as a new booking or may incur charges from suppliers; we will confirm any implications before proceeding.

8Cancellation by AUNZ to Bhutan

AUNZ to Bhutan may cancel a confirmed booking where circumstances make it impossible or impractical to deliver the tour as booked, including where our Bhutanese operating partner is unable to provide the agreed services, required suppliers become unavailable, government restrictions prevent the tour from operating, or other circumstances outside our reasonable control arise.

Where AUNZ to Bhutan cancels, we will notify the customer as soon as reasonably practicable and explain the options available. Depending on the circumstances, options may include rescheduling the trip, providing an alternative itinerary of comparable value, or providing an appropriate refund. Any refund will take into account amounts recoverable from suppliers and the customer's rights under applicable Australian Consumer Law.

AUNZ to Bhutan will not cancel a booking simply because the tour is inconvenient or commercially undesirable after accepting the booking.

9Circumstances outside reasonable control

AUNZ to Bhutan may be affected by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, extreme weather, pandemics, government restrictions, border closures, civil unrest, war, strikes, significant transport disruption, changes to entry requirements, or other events that could not reasonably have been prevented or anticipated.

Where such circumstances affect a booked journey, AUNZ to Bhutan will work with the customer and our Bhutanese partner to determine the safest and most practical solution. This may include changing the itinerary, changing travel dates, substituting activities or accommodation, postponing the trip, or cancelling the affected services.

Where a refund is applicable, the amount will depend on the circumstances, amounts already paid to or retained by suppliers, amounts recoverable by AUNZ to Bhutan, and the customer's rights under applicable Australian Consumer Law.

Customers are strongly encouraged to obtain comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellation, disruption and other relevant travel risks.

10Supplier cancellations

If a supplier engaged by our local partner cancels a component of your journey, we will use reasonable efforts to arrange a comparable alternative. Where this is not possible, affected amounts will be addressed in accordance with this policy.

11Travel insurance

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes cancellation cover. Travel insurance may allow you to recover costs that are not refundable under this policy. See our Travel Insurance page.

12Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable laws that cannot be excluded. Where a non-excludable right applies, this policy operates subject to that right.
